New techniques, materials and executions are pushing the boundaries of luxury wine packaging and fast changing consumer perception of what premium wine can look like.

High-end bottles, wood-inspired elements, metallic foils and one-of-a-kind packaging designs now characterise today’s premium wine packaging, reflecting a luxurious quality as well as creating impact. In this way, IPL Packaging has been privileged to create packaging for several Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) brands; brands that require packaging that offers pride of ownership, acts as a competitive differentiator and represents the pinnacle of luxury within the wine market.

For the George De Latour Cabernet, an iconic 1.5L bottle of wine hailing from the Beaulieu Vineyard Private Reserve in the Napa Valley, we were briefed to create a luxury single bottle display case that would capture the regal Beaulieu Vineyard colour palate of gold, black and red and, of course, would secure the precious bottle secure when shipping.

The pack was intentionally created with many moving parts in order to successfully display the product within whilst the outer pack branding was designed in a gold electroformed decal to convey the luxuriousness of the ‘trophy’ inside.

Created from MDF wrapped with black woodgrain paper, the box features a copper metal lock with key and a copper metal L-shaped handle. Bottle and lid fitments are EVA trays wrapped in black felt.

Copper hinges allow for 90 degree opening and hold the lid open securely to allow for optimal viewing of the beautiful product within.  An elegantly executed laser engraved logo is also present on the outer of the box.

A key challenge of this project was the particularly tight timeline, however we succeeded in designing a new box from concept to completion in 4 months, with on-time delivery.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Chateau St. Jean’s iconic wine, Cinq Cepages, IPL were briefed to create a special edition 6-bottle gift box with two distinct functions: to celebrate this famed wine’s important milestone and to act as a ‘bridge’ into a pack refresh which would debut with the following year’s vintage.

Chateau St. Jean wished to remain with an existing gift box design but also to combine the original gold and black design embellishments of the product with updated design cues destined for their new packaging.

In accordance with the brief, IPL created a luxury rigid board box constructed from 1800gsm greyboard. The lid comprises two parts, with the lid and base connecting through a paper hinge and fastened by 2 sets of magnets.

The outer lid features the Cinq Cepages brand information in gold foil stamping. The inner lid is constructed of 1200gsm greyboard, featuring further brand information (in gold foil-stamping and silkscreening). Moulded to the shape of the each bottle, a 25mm black EVA base fitment holds each of the precious 6 bottles of wine securely.

Sterling Vineyards – Iridium– for the Emmy Awards

For Sterling Vineyards, the official wine partner of the 69th annual Emmy Awards (2017), IPL were briefed to create a specially engraved and personalised gift case to house a magnificent bottle of Sterling Vineyard’s Iridium Cabernet. Each bottle was gifted to individual Emmy Winners in each category in celebration and recognition of their achievement.

In keeping with the exceptional quality of the wine itself, the case was specially constructed using a 5mm custom-made clear acrylic tube complete with machined stainless steel fitments. Laser engraved Sterling Vineyards branding, etched into the stainless steel, was then ink-filled in colours of black and gold.”

A meticulously designed machine-thread opening mechanism on each tube, allows for the lid and base to seamlessly align with the branding.  Additionally, an EVA fitment is designed to fit into both the lid and base of the tube to hold the bottle firmly in place and prevent any potential damage

Each personalised keepsake also features a stainless steel removable and magnetic name plaque, specifically engraved with the name of each winner.
